kevin_standlee: Montreal Wins 2009 Worldcon Site Selection

The following is adapted from the official report of site selection voting results received by the Business Meeting shortly after 1000 local time today (Sunday, September 2, 2007) in Yokohama.

Not knowing how to format a table in an LJ entry, I'm reduced to retyping the results of site selection voting from the convention newsletter SS, which is not yet available on the convention's Newlsetter web page. Intermediate figures after each bid's name are the number of Pre-Con, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday votes, with the final number being the total votes for that candidate. I am also taking the liberty of correcting a minor calculation error. No Pref/Blank/Ineligible votes do not count toward the number of ballots cast for the purposes of determining a majority, although they are part of the total ballots cast overall. This does not affect the final result. I do hope that my retyping has not introduced errors into the document.

Montreal (227,25,130,125) 507
Kansas City (221,12,61,47) 341

Spuzzum BC (0,0,0,1) 1

lisa_marli: Congrats to Montreal!

Yeah, Monster Island got 7, Holister got 1, Minneapolis is still in the running. Life is good.
Hopefully we'll make it to Montreal. I like Neil Gaiman.

adriennef: Congrats, Montreal

I look forward to visiting Canada again in 2009. This decade is certainly putting "the world" back in Worldcon.

I would also like to offer my sympathies to Kansas City. Bidding for the privilege to host a Worldcon is exhausting. I wouldn't mind seeing one in your city in the not-too-distant future. I've never been there before, and Worldcon prompts me to see places I may not otherwise immediately think of going.

I'm only on the fringe of the group that bid the past two times, but I don't think there will be another KC WorldCon bid in the next couple of decades.

Though I think we may host our third Nebula Awards Weekend in the next few years.

I congratulate the bid for Montreal and hope to attend their convention.

I am looking forward to being able to attend that Worldcon. I wish I could've attended this year's, but money (or lack thereof) got in the way.

Time to bone up on my Français.
